I received a few bags of food and snacks from the Pala brand to test out. Today my blog with my review of Pala Nordic Raw Food for Pets!

About Pala
I took a look at Pala’s website, which is not available in Dutch, but is available in English. First of all, the five benefits they attribute to their food are:
- 100% natural
- Minimally processed
- Raw food
- 82-84% fresh meat & fish
- High in Omega 3 and 6
Sounds good! As I read on, I learn that this brand’s food is air-dried, and is therefore in fact dried fresh meat. That fits nicely with what I like to feed! I prefer products that contain as few unnecessary additives as possible, so I can be sure that my girls are getting everything they need from the food. There are seven recipes available, including two with protein sources that fit perfectly into a diet for dogs that cannot tolerate certain proteins.
The snacks are available in different flavors, and here too, dogs with sensitive digestions have been taken into account. Not that my girls need that, but still!
The Food
When I open one of the bags of food, I immediately notice that this is not over-processed kibble, but pieces of ground and dried meat. It distributes nice and easily, and can also be fed very easily in other ways. I don’t like to always just feed in the food bowl, sometimes I let the girls search in the grass, or I take their food with me on the walk. That works great with this food!
I have also used it in the girls’ sniffing mats, and this food works great there too. Something that is absolutely not possible with regular raw meat, of course!
A 1kg bag of recipes 1, 2, 3 and 5 costs €32.95, excluding shipping costs.
The snacks
The snacks are of the same quality as the food. Some types feel a bit greasy, so you should take that into account if you (like me) like to stuff your dog’s snacks in your jacket pocket during training. I solved that by just putting the bag in my jacket pocket.
The Lamb Liver variant is quite large, you can give it whole as a snack (much appreciated here!), or break it into smaller pieces to use during training. Breaking was very easy, so I just did this at times during training when we were waiting for our turn. In the photo you can clearly see the difference in size between ‘before breaking’ and after. Herja was waiting expectantly for her piece, haha!
A bag of 100gr snacks costs €7.50-€8.50, excluding shipping costs.
My verdict
I think this is very good food! This is a wonderful alternative, especially for times when I cannot feed raw meat (on vacation, for example).
Unfortunately, the website has not (yet) been translated into Dutch, which I fear makes ordering from Pala a bit more difficult for a lot of Dutch people.
For me, with my five large dogs, it is a bit expensive to give this food every day, but I can see myself having a stock of this ready for use during vacation, for example, or to use in the girls’ sniffing mats.
Fijne voeding!
Een heel mooi alternatief voor rauwe voeding, en zowel de voeding als de snacks vielen enorm in de smaak bij mijn honden
