The cool Dutch brand Bobba Bars allowed me to review their Rosemary Soap for Dogs! I was sent a block to test out with my girls, and ofcourse I loved doing this. Today is review time!
Disclaimer: I was sent this product to test and review. My opinion is my own, I will not be influenced and will always give my honest opinion about a product. This way I can guarantee the integrity of this blog 🙂
First impression
First of all, I looked at the packaging. The package arrived carefully packaged by letterbox post, the soap was well packaged in a beautiful eco packaging. I love this!
The wrap around the soap comes off easily, and looks very nice. The scent is subtle, which I really like. The biggest problem I have with many large dog shampoo manufacturers is that the product usually smells very strong and chemical. If that bothers me, what must my dogs think?! However, the Bobba Bar smells very nice and natural, a great advantage!
Some background info
The Bobba Bar is a natural soap, which means that it is made from 100% natural ingredients. Oils are saponified and no preservatives are added. No chemicals are added to make the soap foam more, but in my opinion this is absolutely not necessary (I will come back to that later in this blog).
By combining certain oils, a natural soap also has a caring function in addition to a cleansing function. This distinguishes such a soap bar from a (dog) shampoo. A shampoo mainly contains ingredients for cleaning, you usually need a conditioner to take care of the coat.
At Bobba Bars, they opt for a short, clear ingredient list that is understandable to everyone. For example, the Rosemary Bar that I received contains the following ingredients: saponified olive oil, saponified coconut oil, essential oil (rosemary) and a tiny bit of dried rosemary. That’t it! Nice and clear!
A soap bar can be shipped almost without packaging, at most a nice paper wrapper with the name and ingredients on it. This is a big advantage compared to liquid soap, which are almost always packaged in plastic bottles and therefore cause greater pollution. It’s always nice when companies are actively working on being as sustainable as possible, both in packaging and in the production process, and Bobba Bars is very good at that!
The use
Juno and Idunn were nominated for a nice wash, so we had a Spa Day with them last week. First it was Juno’s turn. She has a very thick, quite stiff coat that water and dirt can get ‘caught’ in. After getting her wet under a lukewarm shower, I soaped her up. The soap foams very nicely, so I didn’t need a lot to provide Juno’s fur with a nice foam layer. After I had let the soap soak in for a while, I rinsed her fur and after drying off the worst water with a towel she was allowed to dry further in her bathrobe.
It was Idunn’s turn second. She has a completely different coat than her grandmother, much smoother with thinner hairs. With her I tested the soap bag that I also received. This worked even better than just using the soap! Where the soap became a bit awkwardly slippery during use due to its size (I think this is mainly due to the size of my hands, and will of course decrease as the bar gets smaller), you completely loose the slipperiness in the bag. In no time I had also provided Idunn with a fine foam layer. After rinsing and drying, she was also allowed to dry further in her bathrobe.
Small extra comment about the soap bag: this is not suitable for every coat, fragile fur can break a bit faster and you should definitely not scrub it too hard.
In the days after washing I kept a close eye on their coat. Both ladies had a beautiful glow after washing, and that shine remained beautifully present in the days that followed. Both felt nice and soft and smooth. The subtle smell was gone the day after washing, but I don’t mind. Dog noses are quite sensitive, so I don’t want my dogs to suffer from a soap smell that just lingers around them.
The ultimate test
The ultimate test for the Bobba Bar followed a few days later, when Herja found it necessary to roll through something indefinably filthy during the walk. What a stench emanated from her! This is the number 1 reason why our girls get washed, they like to roll through dirty things or jump in super filthy ditches. I therefore think it is super important that a dog soap also removes the stench from the fur in addition to the dirt.
Herja went upstairs into the bathroom to get a shower as well. I also soaped her up nicely, let it soak in the coat for a while, and then rinsed it out. Dry off nicely in the bathrobe, and then the sniff test came: was the smell gone? Fortunately it was!

Super fijne zeep!
Door de gladheid is het gebruik van een zeepzakje eigenlijk wel een must, daarom niet de volle bak aan punten, maar toch een hele mooie 9.5. Ik ben fan van dit product en kan het van harte aanbevelen!
